Becoming a Christian

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

All people are sinners, and are in need of a Savior.Β

That Savior is Jesus Christ. He is true God and true Man.

Jesus came in our flesh in order to live a perfectly obedient life toward God that no-one can live. He came to suffer and die on the cross as the sacrifice that God required for the forgiveness of your sins. He rose again from the dead, so that you might be justified - declared "not guilty" – because of your sins – and to live eternally.

Jesus suffered in your place.Β

Jesus died a death that you deserve.Β

Jesus bore the sins of the whole world upon Himself on the cross.Β

By His shed blood on the cross, Jesus, who is the Lamb of God, earned the forgiveness of sins for all, including, and especially, for you.Β

This is a forgiveness that is freely given by faith in Jesus, and bestowed through the waters of Holy Baptism. Baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, God names you His dear child, forgiven and redeemed.

This is a forgiveness that is freely given as it is spoken into your ears, "I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

This is a forgiveness that is freely given as He feeds you, His Baptized child, His very Body and Blood - in, with, and under the bread and wine - "given and shed, for you, for the forgiveness of sins."

Jesus suffered and died for the salvation of the world, and He rose again from the dead, guaranteeing for all who believe in His name that when death comes - unless Christ returns first - there is for all who believe and are Baptized, the forgiveness of sins and everlasting life.

"But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to itβ€” the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith." Romans 3:21-25
